Theatre project and space for socio-cultural development

In August 2007, a movement composed of community leaders, producers and cultural groups with the support of the local population and public sector, vacated the Sacolão das Artes in the Park Saint Antonio area in southern São Paulo, Brazil, for the development of a social-cultural center.

The region is one of the most affected by the problems of poverty, violence and crime that characterize the outskirts of the city, It has one of the highest murder rates. It does not  offer any public space that provides culture or recreation for people to find out and discuss ways to develop the location.

Moreover, there is a desire for change and mobilization by members of families, and leaders of the region's youth, which see this area as an opportunity  not only for a large-scale social intervention but also as an effective initiative coming from  the people rather than from political officialdom.

Why support this initiative?

• The area is already open to the public, offering various activities (cultural presentations and workshops).

• The space is highly suited to implement various projects, some of which already been adopted: partnership for social-educational care for 120 children from 6 to 14 years old, cooperative groups of work, a project of inclusion and digital partner for cultural projects and sports

  

• The proposal is to establish partnerships that contribute to reform and adequate the space or funding of projects-such as education, cultural, sports, generating  income and health through exception of tax or not .
• Support for this action would mean, apart from commitment and social responsibility to associate your company with a large and meaningful project that can become a reference for the city to São paulo.
• The demands of the region on the Sacolão das Arts are enormous. As a centre for the social-cultural life, it has every potential to become a support for numerous initiatives that are bringing about social and cultural transformation.
