Why Workcamps? PDF Imprimir E-mail

dsc06454A work camp is a service rendered to a project that has arisen out of the needs of a local community. It brings together people who want to do something with projects that need their input.

The projects are discovered by young people connected to Idem who have either heard about them or found them on their travels.

Others find us through this website.

A workcamp lasts for three to four weeks – or somewhat longer if need be. The number of participants can be anywhere between seven and can 35, depending on the situation.

Taking Part in Workcamps PDF Imprimir E-mail

bild0949How can you join in?  How can you prepare yourself?  How will you be supported through the experience?  What happens when it is all over?

Introduction

Young people are able to meet and make friends with people of a quite different culture and have experiences that affect their whole future. They can break out of their familiar surroundings and circumstances, which they often find unchallenging, over-protected and unsatisfactory. They are supported in the process of finding themselves, in establishing their identity. They see themselves and the world in a new way and gain confidence in their ability to make a difference in the world. A workcamp is a major event for both the project and the participant. You become part of a group process and learn new skills ranging from building to project management

Workcamp Leaders PDF Imprimir E-mail

Our workcamp leaders are mostly young people who have been on a workcamp and now take the initiative to organise one themselves, usually in partnership with someone else.

The workcamp leaders organise the preparation with the group, fundraising and other arrangements. Then comes the work at the project, with the local building or other foremen, purchase of materials and bookkeeping. Other activities undertaken during the project are coordinated with them. (eg. Educational and artistic work, workshops etc.)
